One of our favourite things to do in Phoeinx is the zoo. I’ve always enjoyed going to zoos and can appreciate all the amazing animals but now that I have kids it is so much more fun. My daughter especially loves going to the zoo now that she is old enough to know the animals. We asked her if she would want to go to the zoo and she was so excited. So we tried to pick the coolest (and by coolest it was still 94)  day  we were there to head to the zoo. They were having a special “Pirate and Princess” day the day we went, as well as a scavenger hunt which was cool to see throughout the park.

One of the first animals we saw where the elephants. The trainer happened to be doing a pumpkin squash with the elephants when we were there. It was really cool to see the trainer put the pumpkin out on the log and let the elephants do with it what they want. It was so neat to see the elephant use his trunk to pick the pumpkin up and then he eventually dropped it so it broke and then ate some of it.

There are so many amazing animals at the Phoeinx zoo. It is so cool to see such incredible animals that we usually only see on the pages of books or on t.v. and movies and here they are in real life. My sister especially loved when the tiger that was sleeping soundly finally got up and moved. She sounded like a kid on the morning of Christmas as she yelled “he’s moving he’s moving”.

Pictures really don’t do these animals justice. They are so amazing from their size to their different skin, fur and coloring. God was so creative when he made them. This chimpanzee had just had a baby and was nursing the baby for us all to see. The picture is hard to tell (I am not the greatest photographer must work on that) but the baby was so tiny.

Last time we were at the zoo (in the spring) my husband and daughter got to feed a giraffe. It was a highlight for both my husband and Gray. So this time my husband insisted that I get to experience it. I must say it was pretty neat to be up so close to a giraffe. We fed the female and her name was Zuri. We (my daughter actually did most of the feeding) fed her 2 pieces of lettuce and then two pellets of food. I thought my daughter might be a little nerves since with the pellets you hold it with two fingers and the giraffe comes and wraps her tongue around the pellet but Gray thought it was the greatest. She kept saying “I do it I do it”.

My daughter was also very excited when we found the flamingos. She kept yelling “Mingos Mingos” and of course as a flamingo lover myself I was so happy that she was just as excited to see these beautiful birds. The colouring of the flamingo is just so brilliant and the pink is hidden so nicely until they move and then the beautiful pink shines through.

We all were hot, sweaty and tired after all the fun at the zoo but it was a day well spent with my favourite people seeing some amazing animals.
