If you are like me you probably browse Pinterest often for inspiration and help on things to cook, bake, make etc. I love how handy pinterest can be and how when I need something as simple as an idea for dinner I can type in a few key words and tons of options pop up for me. Of course like all social media platforms pinterest is not always what it seems. You don’t see the failed attempts you always see beautiful results and it is easy (at least for me) to become discouraged when I try something that Pinterst made seem super easy and I can’t make it turn out! but you never know until you try and there have been a few (very few) times when I try something and I am surprised how easy it really was and it turns out better than I even thought! So when browsing for ideas of things to make for my sons Halloween Boo-day Bash I found this super cute recipe that was simply dipping marshmallows in chocolate and creating faces out of the marshmallows. Seemed simple and looked super cute and I knew that this project would be fun to have the kids help me with. (First mistake!) I love to involve my kids in whatever I am doing if I can. When I am cooking/baking they always are more than willing and usually are begging to help so I started by showing them the picture on pinterest and right away my daughter was squealing with excitement to make them. So we made our grocery list and headed off to bulk barn to make our purchases. Now going into bulk barn (for those who don’t know what that it it is our local candy and baking goods store) for me is always deadly. I have an addiction to candy and chocolate and sadly (totally my fault I know) my children have contracted the same problem. So you can see how going to this store requires a detailed list and patience on this mamas part as my babies want one of everything! This time though we left with only the stuff on our list and a couple (and I literally mean a couple) candies for each of them as a reward for being so well behaved in the store. We than got home and I laid it all out and did the blogger thing and told them “Stand back mommy needs to take a picture”. Remember my creation was going to be as fabulous as the pinterest picture so I didn’t want to miss any steps or pictures to share with you on her so you too could recreate these super cute treats! I guess in hind sight I should have been way more humble and just let go of my OCD and said to heck with it have fun create whatever you want little ones but no no I didn’t I was very detailed with my directions to them and so we decided to start off with green. I warmed the chocolate in the microwave and once it was melted we dipped our marshmallows.  And wouldn’t you know the marshmallows (that weren’t being dipped and eaten by my son) were melting from the chocolate (second fail) so I started to calmly panic! This isn’t going right! Reread pinterest directions… yup we are following as per the instructions. So by this time my son has had I don’t know how many my sweet daughter is trying so hard but getting green chocolate everywhere and baby girl is crying for a bottle so HAULT! So I take a few minutes to feed baby girl and rethink this whole thing. So what I ended up doing was melting the chocolate and letting is cool a bit than dipping them not on the stick and placing them in a pan and putting in the fridge to harden than I did the “decorating” or creating of the faces etc. Although mine totally did not turn out as cute as the pinterest picture like I said in my last post they got eaten and I seriously had so much fun doing it with my kids. There is something so rewarding about watching my babies do “grown up ” things and watching their excitement and enjoyment of simple things like dipping marshmallows in chocolate. The days with them this little are flying bye and as busy as my days with the 3 of them are I am trying so hard to carve out time to be intentional with them and soak up them individually and together because lets face it in a couple years they will be in school all day and I won’t have all the hours of the day to spend with them doing little projects, cooking, baking, playing! Please don’t think I have it all together because I don’t I’m just a mom like the rest of you trying to do the best I can for my little people because they deserve the world!
